Sofia Fratti of Fong Ilagan, Certified as a Foreign Legal Consultant by the State Bar of Texas

November 18, 2019 (Houston, TX)- The Houston immigration law firm, Fong Ilagan, is proud to announce the certification of Sofia Fratti as a Foreign Legal Consultant by the State Bar of Texas. Sofia recently received her certificate and bar card from the State Bar of Texas making her an official Foreign Legal Consultant (FLC). Sofia joins an exclusive list of less than 75 individuals certified as FLCs in the state of Texas.

Originally from Antiguo Cuscatlan, El Salvador, Sofia was exposed to the legal field early in life as her grandfather, mother, and father are all experienced attorneys working in different areas of law. Inspired by them, she knew she wanted to become an attorney herself to help facilitate positive changes in the lives of people in her community and country.

Sofia graduated at the top of her class from the Escuela Superior de Economía y Negocios law school and began practicing administrative, constitutional, and consumer law at her family’s law firm in El Salvador. Upon immigrating to the United States in 2017, she was accepted to the LL.M. in Immigration and Nationality Law program at the Thurgood Marshall School of Law (TMSL) in Houston where she discovered a newfound passion for immigration law.

The FLC certification program is available to those in a recognized legal profession in a foreign country and those admitted to practice as an attorney at law in a foreign country and who can meet the requirements of the rigorous application process. “I am so excited to receive the FLC certification with the State of Texas legal system,” says Sofia. She continues, “it is a big step in my career, and I am proud to have been selected and supported by the Fong Ilagan team for this role.”

During her schooling at TMSL, Sofia began working as a Law Clerk with the family-based immigration team at Fong Ilagan before quickly being promoted to a full time paralegal at the firm. “In the time Sofia has been with the firm, she has excelled in her role, experience, and confidence as a legal professional,” says William Fong, managing partner of Fong Ilagan. He continues, “We are lucky to have such a passionate and knowledgeable person like Sofia on our team and proud to support her in her new role as a certified Foreign Legal Consultant here at Fong Ilagan.”

Sofia received her LL.M. degree in Immigration and Nationality Law from TMSL in May 2019 with a 4.0 GPA and plans to take the Texas State Bar Exam in 2020. Until then, Sofia will continue to serve clients’ immigration needs at Fong Ilagan as well as being an of counsel attorney at her family’s law firm in El Salvador.

  1. I had the chance to meet Sofia while she was an intern at the Legal Studies Department of the Salvadoran Foundation for Economic and Social Development. I was overwhelmed by how smart, responsible, kind, and overall, a great person she was. We tried to recruit her numerous times after she finished her internship, but she had too many offers to choose from. Congratulations to Fong.Ilagan! She always overdelivers.
